My journey toward becoming a book indexer began in my childhood, during which I would pore over nonfiction children’s books about history. In college, I studied both history and elementary education, excited to share my love of learning with the next generation. After earning a master’s degree in elementary education, I taught kindergarten in a variety of school settings, ranging from a Title I school to a homeschool hybrid academy. I have since transitioned to full-time work as a book indexer, and I now educate adults as an instructor for the Principles of Indexing course offered by the American Society for Indexing (ASI). I also serve as a director-at-large for ASI.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Mustafa, and we live in Forest, Virginia. In my spare time, I sing in a church choir and a community chorus. I also still enjoy reading for fun, especially memoirs.
